I know what you’re thinking: yes, that is lettuce. And no, I couldn’t resist the title of this post. This is my first attempt to grow lettuce. (Well, second, if you count that time 2 years ago that I spent 3 hours happily planting the stuff, only to wake up the next morning and find the entire crop had been leveled by a family of very hungry bunnies.) Right out of the gate, there are 3 things wrong with this picture:
1. They are not spaced enough
2. They have no business being in a container this deep
3. I’m not really sure if this is out-of-reach for the rabbits.
In short, this could wind up being one big Garden Fail. But it’s okay! If there’s two main things I’m learning about gardening, it’s that you never stop learning, and anything goes. What you pay only half of your attention to and barely water could turn into your biggest surprise. And sometimes, it’s quite the opposite – where you expect to see beautiful seedlings, the only thing you seem to find emerging from the dirt are giant middle fingers where your peppers should be. You just have to roll with it. And as for my salad experiment: lettuce pray.
