HELP! This is a participation post. I need you to tell me, what do you call your grandma?
Penelope is almost 9 months old, and we still don’t have a name for her or her little cousin to call Greg’s mom. Almost every name we can think of has been vetoed, and we need help.
There are stipulations for the name: it can’t sound “old lady-ish,” it has to be original, and it cannot involve her first name.
And I thought coming up with a baby name was tough.
Here is the run-down of the names that are OFF the table:
- Grandma (or any variation of this, such as “Gammy,” “Grams,” “Gamma,” etc.)
- Mima (this is what my mother is called and, like the queen, there can only be one)
- “Grandma (first name)”
- GiGi (this has been vetoed because, as my brother-in-law put it, “she would sound like a retired stripper”)
- Traditional ethnic names, such as “Nonna” or “Abuela”
Le sigh. As you can see, we are in a pickle. We Facetime with her regularly and right now, it’s been us saying, “Look, Penelope! There’s Gr….uhh….Grandpa’s wife!” My sister-in-law and I are at our wits end and are about ready to designate a symbol for her, like Prince. We’d call her the “artist formerly known as grandma” and just hold up a flashcard with the symbol on it for Penelope – but this involves the “G” word, so of course it’s off the table.
So please tell me: What do you call your grandma? What do your kiddos call their grandma?
*(Bonus points: if ANYONE can help us and come up with a name that is approved, I will give you a free copy of my book!)*
