You may have noticed my love for succulents; those cool-looking, very easy-to-maintain plants that seem to look good anywhere. I’m back at it again with planting them in glass containers in my home because IT’S SPRING, people, and I needed a nice little decorative update.
I bought these two – I don’t know what you call them…floor vases? Standing terrariums? Decorative pillars? Things my husband doesn’t understand? – when we moved into our house because I loved them and they are the kind of versatile items that you can change around with the seasons, or just whenever you need a simple way to add an inexpensive “pick-me-up” to your home.
They were filled with pine cones and other now depressing, “wintery” items, so it felt good to toss those and fill them with moss, candles, and of course, succulents. You don’t need to be a green-thumb for this, or an HGTV show, AND it is super easy to pull it together.
While you probably don’t have the very same things I have (unless maybe you do, and we are decorative soul sisters who shop Pier 1 clearance), I will BET that you have a few glass vases/bowls/containers you can bust out of your cabinets and fill with candles, succulents, and moss. Because it really is SO. EASY.
- a layer of rocks (found outside our house)
- cactus soil (available at any home and garden store, or here: Espoma CA4 4-Quart Organic Cactus Mix)
- a few succulents (under $3 each found at a home and garden store, or here: 15 Mixed Succulent Spring Collection)
- moss (available at any craft store, or here: Quality Growers Variety Pack Moss, 108.5 Cubic Inch)
That’s it. I have a full tutorial with more detail and pics over at this post here, and it is honestly so very easy that you’ll have it done in no time.
For the one with the candles, I first put a layer of rocks, then 3 white candles of different heights, then scattered more moss. Again:
So. Stinkin’. Easy. So go ahead and give your home a facelift, and snap a pic of what you did! Follow me on Instagram or at my Facebook page, and tag me so I can see. HAPPY SPRING!!!
